If you use an email address with your own domain name instead of a third-party one, you will be able to make use of an email application such as Apple Mail, Outlook or Thunderbird to check and manage your email accounts. The advantage of using such apps is that they also offer other features, such as calendars and address books. There are two email protocols that you can select from when you configure the application of your liking to access your email account – POP3 and IMAP. With the first one, all messages that are received will be downloaded onto your device – desktop or mobile, unless you choose to leave a copy on the mail server. With the second one, the messages will be displayed at your end, but they will stay on the server at all times, so you can set up the account on multiple devices and see the messages from any place. You’ll also be able to check old email messages if there is an issue with your Internet access, which is an advantage over web-based services.
